The rush.

It’s the rush you get when you know you’re about to experience something truly special, that exhilarating feeling, that giddying ascent to heaven for a brief moment.

You know what I’m talking about.

There’s that moment before it happens. Your heartbeat is racing, speeding up, getting faster. You lick your lips in anticipation, easing the dryness from the outside air.

Just one touch will send you wild. You ache for it, that feeling of something so soft, so smooth and yet so textured against your skin… it’s a simple kind of bliss. Your fingers have been waiting for what seems like decades to stroke what lay before you.

Breathe in, breathe out. Slow the heart, slow the blood that courses too quickly through your veins. You’ll get a headrush, or maybe that’s the point. Nothing like a good headrush in the heat of the moment.

You move forwards, getting closer to where you want to be. You see what you want and in that split second you know you just have to have it. It’s the only thing you want; nothing else matters, nothing else counts.

Deep breath in, don’t lose focus.

You close your eyes for the shortest of moments, and when you reopen them… yes, it’s ok, it’s still there. Hovering, waiting for you. You’re so close now and you’ve wanted this for so long.

Grab it. You grab it and it’s done.

That gorgeous white shirt you’ve had your eye on for two weeks is finally in your hand. Check: is it your size? (Heart beats faster, it looks a little small) Yes, yes it is. It’s going to be ok.

This is what you live for. The rush of the shop. The rush of the chase.

What were you thinking?
